DIGGING & SHIPPING
August 07, 2019
Digging and shipping is probably our most improved area of operation in the past few years. Mason and the team have worked hard to refine the process and have cut the digging/shipping time nearly in half. No exaggeration!
We use a “shelf” method to try and always have a certain amount of specific varieties ready to go. Once we receive an order we send our digging team out to collect our very best trees. They use our customized Lemar tree spades to place the trees into baskets.

Each basket is tied neatly by hand. We are always looking to perfect our tying method and over the years we have adapted our method to ensure a tightly tied basket where there is little to no chance of girdling.

Once the trees are dug and tied they’re brought to the loading dock. Our pest specialist, Kurstin, heads out to examine the trees and then our 3-man shipping team loads them onto the truck in record time!

A big part of our success in cutting down loading time is thanks to our basket redesign. We now have a much smaller basket. The difference in size has led to a number of positive changes:
- less dirt being shipped with our trees = more soil stays on the farm
- More trees on a truck = you can order bigger loads
- More convenient weight/size for handling

Let us know if you have any questions about our process! Oh, and when you place an order you don’t have to worry about organizing shipping. We take care of the details for you. Just tell us where and when and we’ll get it there.
